A man in his 30s has been arrested following the seizure of 382 thousand euro's worth of herbal cannabis in Cavan.
He is being detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice Act at a Garda Station in the Cavan area. As part of an intelligence-led operation, Revenue officers seized approximately 19.1kgs of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of €382,000 in Cavan.
This seizure was made yesterday as a result of a joint operation conducted by Revenue's Customs Service, the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau and the Cavan Divisional Detective Unit. One man in his 30's was arrested by An Garda Síochána and is currently detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice act. Investigations are ongoing.
Separately, on Thursday last revenue officers seized approximately 29.4kgs of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of €589,200 in West Dublin. A man in his 40's was arrested by Gardai, he was detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 at a Garda Station in Dublin and was later charged with offences under the Misuse of Drugs Act. He later appeared before the Criminal Courts of Justice.
These seizures are part of Revenue's ongoing joint investigations targeting organised crime groups and the importation, sale and supply of illegal drugs.
