€35.1million has been announced for regional and local roads across Cavan and Monaghan. Co Cavan will receive a funding allocation of €18,140,310, meanwhile a funding allocation €17,057,095 will go to Co Monaghan in aid of improving and maintaining local roads. This is part of a significant government investment package of €658m nationwide aimed at restoring the network which is essential for maintaining social and economic connectivity, and linking people and places across the country. Speaking to Northern Sound in relation to today's announcement, Fianna-Fail TD for Cavan and Monaghan, Deputy Niamh Smyth said this investment will allow us to repair, strengthen and maintain our roads across the region. She added that resources will be dedicated towards initiatives such as road repair, bridge rehabilitation, road safety measures, community engagement, drainage improvements, and climate change adaptation.
Deputy Smyth said, "I was particularly delighted to see €600,000 allocated to the former N2 for rehabilitation works. €80,000 has been awarded to the R182 in Castleblayney Climate Change Adaptation and Resilience Works, as well as €14,000 for the l76003 in Oram for improvement works. In Cavan, the N55 will receive €250,000 for rehabilitation works, €500,000 has been allocated to Assan Bridge just outside Ballyjamesduff, €42,000 has been assigned to Loughduff Bridge in Mullahoran, and €66,000 for Lurganboy bridge. €65,000 has been awarded to Granard Street in Ballyjamesduff for safety improvement works and €32,000 for Bleach Cross Shercock towards climate change adaptation and resilience works.

These roads are imperative for children getting to school and people getting to work safely. Deputy Smyth emphasised the importance of this investment for rural regeneration and concluded by saying that a key priority for Fianna Fáil in Government continues to be the protection and renewal of the existing regional and local road network."
