The Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys has today announced a substantial funding allocation for four landmark regeneration projects across Cavan and Monaghan. The investment is being provided under the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund (RRDF) with a particular emphasis on the revitalisation of rural town centres. A funding allocation of €6.2 million euro will go towards St Michael's Hall in Cootehill. This project will transform the historic St Michaels Hall into a multifunctional community space in the town centre. The project will regenerate and strengthen the town centre, creating a new focal point for the community. Almost €11 million will also go towards the Kingscourt Town Centre Regeneration project. This project will deliver a transformational redevelopment of Kingscourt town core including the refurbishment of a former NIB Building to provide a Community Library and the refurbishment of a vacant former BOI building to create a multi-functional hub. The project will provide new and improved amenities, a more vibrant and attractive town centre and improved quality of life for residents.
Elsewhere in Co Monaghan, almost €11 million has been announced to redevelop the historic Market House in Castleblayney. This project will redevelop the historic Market House into a public facility providing cultural, retail and office spaces. The project also includes public realm enhancements to create a pedestrian frined public gathering space. Together with works already completed at the Gate Lodge, this project will create a people-centric town square that supports economic opportunities.
Finally, a funding allocation of almost €5 million will go towards redeveloping the former Lennard Arms Hotel in Clones. This project will regenerate two interlinked and strategic sites to develop the heart of the town and improve the tourist offering. The former Lennard Arms Hotel will house a Museum and Visitor Centre and a new business hub will be built on a derelict site on Fermanagh Street.
