A €32 million upgrade to the Carrickmacross Sewerage Scheme has gotten underway. The project incldues the upgrade of the wastewater treatment plant, the construction of a new pumping station and a new 3,3km final effluent pipeline to the Longfield River.
The works will ensure the treatment of wastewater is fully compliant with EU Urban Wastewater Treatment Directives and Wastewater Discharge Licence Emission Limit Values.
The announcement follows a recent EPA report showing 58% of the 504 urban wastewater treatment plants had some kind of issue last year. The EPA have also listed Bailieborough, Blacklion, and Mullagh, and Castleblayney as priority areas for upgrades.
