€32 million euro is to be spent on upgrading the Carrickmacross waster water treatment plant. The massive investment was announced yesterday by Uisce Éireann who took over the maintenance of the plant from Monaghan County Council.
Newly-elected Cathaoirleach of the Carrickmacross-Castleblayney Municipal District, PJ O'Hanlon, said the upgrade of the water plant fits in to the overall future plans of his hometown. With 150 new private homes being built in Carrick, the completion of the C-Tech business centre, its location around an hour from both Dublin and Belfast airports and its population expected to rise from 6,000 to 15,000 in coming years, the €32 million spent on its water plant is both welcome and wise:
"Carrick, fortunately, is growing. At the present minute in time, in Carrick there are a ;lot of houses being built and the demand is great for them," Cllr O'Hanlon told Northern Sound, "We're hoping over the next 12 months there'll be in excess of 150 private houses built in Carrickmacross and there's plans to build more and we're opening the new C-Tech building at the end of October. I have no doubt," he continued, "that in a couple of months that facility is going to be filled."
