Funding of 320,000 has been announced for local monuments and historic sites across Cavan and Monaghan.
Five locations in Cavan are set to benefit from 190,000 funding while two locations in Monaghan are to receive 130,000 from the government's community monuments fund.
Minister of State for Heritage, Malcolm Noonan today announced the award of €8 million in funding for 140 archaeological heritage projects throughout the country as part of the Department's Community Monuments Fund for 2023. This year's fund represents an increase of 33% over last year's allocation, with €197,091 being awarded to 5 projects in Cavan.
In Cavan St. Mogue's Church is to receive €94,673 in funding, €37,997 in funding is going to Drumlane Abbey. €30,000 in funding from the community fund is being set aside for Enagh Windmill. Moneygashel Cashel is to receive just under 30,000 while €4,459 in funding is going to Moybologue.
In Monaghan, the Minister announced €100,000 in funding for Errigal Truagh Church and €30,000 in funding for Clones Motte under the national historic fund. Nationally since this fund was established in 2020 it has supported over 330 projects across the country.
