Cllr Stiofan Conaty said this is very positive news for the road users and residents of these areas.

A local Sinn Fein Councillor has endorsed the road plan that was approved this week for the Ballyhaise and Redhills area.

Cllr Stiofan Conaty said under the plan under this plan, €2m will be invested over the next three years in some of the worst roads in that area.

The roads that will see the funding include the Brockley to Bunnoe road, the Leggykelly Road and the Antiduff Road. He said this is very positive news for the road users and residents of these areas, adding that he knows these roads well and they have gone to the point of being impassable.

Cllr Stiofan Conaty said he is extremely unhappy, however, that these are the only roads in the local area which are to receive funding under this plan. In this Municipal District alone, he said there is a road network of 1,100 kilometers and they received funding from the government to service only 11km a year, which the Sinn Fein councilor describes as scandalous.

Cllr Conaty said there are about 20 other roads in Ballyhaise and Redhills in similar states of disrepair, there are no plans for roads in Kill and Drung, where similar needs are evident, and the overall level of investment in this plan is a damning indictment on the central government who have a record of decades of underfunding.
