Monaghan County Council will receive €2.3 million for studies to support the upgrade of the N2 National Primary Road in Co Monaghan between Clontibret and the border.
The announcement was made by the Minister of State, Jack Chambers TD earlier today. This funding is part of co-funding of transport projects by the European Union’s Connecting Europe Facility.
Speaking in to Northern Sound, Cavan-Monaghan TD, Deputy Brendan Smith said this road project is "critical" to enhancing key North/South and regional connectivity. He added that the upgrade will also improve road safety.
"Along with Senator Robbie Gallagher and other public representatives in Co Monaghan, we emphasised the importance of advancing this project," explained Deputy Smith. "Not alone will this road be extremely beneficial to Co Monaghan but it is essential for the North-West of this country. "
