A donation of €15,000 in honour of the late Killian Casey has been pledged to launch emergency first responder projects across Cavan.
The donation in honour of the Killian's legacy will see new CRITICAL Emergency Medical Responder and First Responder projects across the region
It will cost the charity €1,500 to equip each volunteer, all of which is being funded by CRITICAL.
Each responder will be provided with an Emergency Backpack containing a defibrillator, a resuscitation kit and a medical diagnostic kit.
CRITICAL, the emergency medical response charity, has announced a partnership with the National Ambulance Service (NAS) that will see National Ambulance Staff Off-Duty Responders being able to volunteer with the charity whilst responding to potentially life-threatening emergencies in their local communities.
Micheál Sheridan, CEO of CRITICAL who is a Ballinagh native says this donation in memory of Killian may save someone's life one day.
"We met with the family and friends of the late Killian Casey who people may remember was the young man who died tragically in Lough Sheelin. We made a commitment to the family, they raised money for ourselves and for Temple Street. We made a commitment to them and to his friends that we'd use some of the money that was raised from their fundraising to actually pay for the equipment that's needed for responders in the Cavan area. We're going to stand by that commitment so, for him and his legacy, for his family, and for him to be remembered in that way we think that's really important. His legacy will continue and maybe someday some young man or young woman will be in a similar situation and a local responder will get there".
