Monaghan and Cavan sports clubs are to benefit to the tune of over €145,000 from a tranche of funding announced today. €82,500 is on its way to County Cavan and €60,000 to Monaghan.
The Cavan money is earmarked for Morrissey Park, Belturbet and Con Smith Park in Cavan Town aimed at encouraging outdoor recreation. The money is to be used for the development of basketball courts, low level lighting, an outdoor soccer table and exercise matting. The allocation of €60,000 has been allocated to Monaghan Sports Partnership for the development of facilities at Lough Muckno, Ballybay Town Park and Rossmore Park. This will enable the provision of basketball courts, table tennis, pétanque and a sport equipment storage unit.
Cavan-Monaghan TD Brendan Smith welcomed the funding as more and more people turn to the outdoors for health and wellbeing: "All of those facilities are important and it'll make sure we make better use of that outdoor space in those outdoor play and recreation areas," Deputy Smith said, "I know that nowadays, thankfully, that people of all age groups are availing of outdoor facilities for recreation for getting out and about."
