€123m has been invested in Cavan Monaghan Education and Training Board (CMETB) schools.
This is according to the local ETB board which shared the information during a meeting at the Garage Theatre in Monaghan this week.
The investment includes modular accommodation for Cavan Institute as well as additional classrooms at Ballybay Community College, Beech Hill College, Virginia College and Inver College.
Works are also expected to begin later this year at St Bricin’s College, Breifne College, and Castleblayney College.
The investment is being regarded as a major effort by the ETB to future proof education services across the region.
Cllr Clifford Kelly said it would serve future generations of Cavan and Monaghan “very well.”
“It is wonderful to see such an investment in our future generations,” he added.
Meanwhile, Cllr PJ O’Hanlon highlighted the importance of construction companies in the Republic of Ireland being awarded the contracts to carry out the proposed works at the various schools.
“We have to look after our own,” he said.
