More than €115,000 in adaptation grants for people living with disability has been unclaimed across Cavan and Monaghan.
That's according to local Sinn Fein TD, Deputy Pauline Tully who says the issues have arisen because of spiralling costs.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Deputy Tully highlighted how the grants were not drawn down last year because the limits are currently too low for works to be feasible.
She highlighted how in 2022, a funding allocation of €559,298 was made to Cavan and Monaghan but just €444,210 was drawn down
Deputy Tully added that people living locally who need necessary adaptions to their homes are going without and the accessible funds continue to "gather dust".
“The scheme isn’t able to keep pace with these costs and in the meantime, much-needed adaptations can’t go ahead.
“The Department of Housing and Cavan and Monaghan local authorities must look into this issue urgently, to ensure that the scheme can operate as intended without delay.
“Many people in Cavan-Monaghan have been waiting for long periods for approval for these grants which would make a major difference to their quality of life and ensure that they are safe in their homes. They are relieved to be approved for a grant, only to find that the work is unable to be delivered. "
