Insurance companies have been accused of taking advantage of people by a local TD.

It received strong support during a debate on its proposals in the Dáil today.
However, there are concerns about the impact the bill could have on attracting companies to Ireland.
The Minister for Finance says the government is not opposing it but it has issues with its implications.

Local TD Pauline Tully said quotes given to new customers for car insurance could be up to €1,000 lower than those given to customers renewing.
