Over €1.2 million has been allocated to CHO areas covering the Shannonside Northern Sound Region to clear the Assessment of Needs backlog.
This comes under a national provision of an extra €7.8 million announced earlier today by Ministers Stephen Donnelly and Anne Rabitte.
A new Sláintecare initiative has been announced in order to clear the backlog for children’s Assessment of Needs, and supporting the roll out of Children’s Disability Network Teams.
The measure is to support children and families who are experiencing long waiting times for an assessment and follow up services.
Locally CHO 1 which includes Leitrim, Cavan and Monaghan has been allocated 214,000 euro for 138 children who are overdue.
CHO 2 which includes Roscommon has received 159,000 euro to clear 100 children on the list.
While CHO 8, which includes Longford and Westmeath has received the largest sum of 901,000 euro locally, to clear a waiting list of 764 children.
