Paddy Askins, son of Patrick Askin, who was killed in the 1974 bombings, is challenging the Garda Commissioner and the Minister for Justice over their alleged failure to co-operate with the Police Ombudsman’s investigation.

The families and survivors of the Dublin/Monaghan bombings have lodged proceedings in the High Court against the Garda Commissioner and the Minister for Justice. The decision was made over their failure to provide files to the Northern Ireland Police Ombudsman's inquiry into the Glenanne series of cases, entitled Operation Newham.

The case has been taken in the name of Paddy Askin whose father was killed in the Monaghan Bomb. Margaret Urwin from the 'Justice for the Forgotten' campaign group believes this is failure makes a mockery of all previous ministerial promises about the Irish State co-operating with their Northern counterparts to ensure transparency. Margaret welcomed the fact that the High Court has made an order granting Leave to take the case to the next stage. She is now calling on the authorities to do the right thing and make these files available as soon as possible.
