Expenses worth almost €495,000 were paid to County Councillors in Monaghan last year.
That's down almost €30,000 on the total for 2019, with the pandemic leading to fewer conferences and other events.
All Councillors received a basic salary of €17,375 a year which is subject to PAYE and other charges.
They are also eligible to claim back costs for phone bills, travel and subsistence.
Fianna Fáil's Seamus Coyle received the most last year at just over €37,500. He served as Cathaoirleach of the Council up until June of last year, which came with an allowance of over €12,300.
His successor, Sinn Féin's Colm Carthy received the second-highest amount at €35,300.
Independent Hugh McElvaney received the lowest amount in the county at €22,700.
Expenses paid under the 'travel and subsistence' category, which covers costs incurred for travel to and from training, conferences and some meetings, was down 82 per cent on 2019's figure.
€5,625 was paid to Councillors last year, with events in Athlone, Waterford, Armagh and Clonakilty among those attended by Monaghan Councillors.
Over half of that was paid to three Councillors, Independent Paudge Connolly, Fine Gael's David Maxwell and Seamus Coyle. Seven Councillors attended no events.
