Half as many people are receiving the Pandemic Unemployment Payment in the local region this week when compared with the peak in early May.
Department figures show the number has fallen by 1,800 locally over the past week.
The latest figures show 16,100 people are still receiving the payments across the Shannonside Northern Sound region.
Cavan and Monaghan both saw a drop of 500 in the numbers receiving the payments over the last week. They now stand at 4,400 and 4,000 respectively.
Roscommon saw a drop of 400 in its figure with 3,400 still receiving payments there.
Longford and Leitrim both saw drops of 200 since last week. 2,300 are receiving the PUP in Longford and 2,000 are in Leitrim.
Today’s figures represent a drop of 17,500 from early May when the number receiving the PUP was at its peak.
Local Minister Heather Humphreys, who's Minister for Social Protection, says she wants "to stress that there can be no room for complacency".
She says “much more needs to be done. That’s why the Government will set out a suite of measures aimed at getting more people back to work in the July Jobs Stimulus this week.”
