Drivers in border and north west counties are being hit particularly hard by the rise in fuel costs according to a local rural TD. Sligo Leitrim Independent Deputy Marian Harkin says the government need to tackle the crisis in fuel costs in the upcoming budget.
Motorists are being warned that prices could pass 2 euro per litre as measures introduced last year to lower costs are being reversed.
Deputy Harkin says the lack of public transport in some rural counties means workers are being hit hard every time they climb in their cars.
"We know that between now and the end of October petrol prices will increase by about 7.5 cent a litre and diesel by 10 cent a litre, that means that the difference from one side of the border to the other will be between 11 and 14 cent per litre," Deputy Harkin explained.
