A driver was detected travelling 164kp/h in a 100kp/h zone along the N3 in Co Cavan.
The motorist was stopped by Cavan roads policing unit when the bank holiday Garda operation came to an end.
Local Gardai said anyone prepared to drive at dangerously excessive speeds has the potential to destroy lives – if not their own, others too. Speeds were detected ranging 130km/ph to 196km/ph across the region over the past number of days.
116 people have died on Irish roads so far this year, an increase of 13 on 2023 figures. Local Gardai are continuing to make detections and want to send out a clear message slow down and arrive alive and never drink and drive.
