The Doohamlet Community Centre is to receive a donation of 1,000 euro from the Ballybay-Clones MD.
The project is nearing completion following a major re-development and extension which, with a rise in the construction costs, is now valued at 850,000 euro.
The community hope to officially open the centre this summer, but the MD wanted to assist financially in some way to cover part of the shortfall and additional costs of arising works.
Councillor Seamus Coyle proposed a 3,000 euro donation; however, policy dictates that a maximum of 1,000 can be awarded to groups when it comes outside of the normal grant procedure.
Despite some questioning of this protocol it was decided to award 1,000 euro to the project, however, the possibility of changing this policy was discussed for the future.
