The demand that was experienced during the initial stages of the Covid-19 pandemic for dogs, cats and puppies is not there any more.
That's according to Tina Boyle from Cavan SPCA who says that many dogs purchased during that time have now been dumped.
She says others have strayed from home because they weren't neutered and they have either had litters of pups or have been isolated and feel lonely.
Tina also pointed out that the cost of living crisis is not making life any easier for family pets.
She added that many are being brought to animal shelters because their owners can no longer afford to take care of them.
