Gardaí are warning all dog owners in the Shannonside Northern Sound region
that they could face prosecution if their dog is found to have attacked
livestock.
Over nine attacks on livestock were reported across the region since March
with five in the Leitrim area, four in the Roscommon-Longford division and
two in the Cavan-Monaghan area.
Nationally, there have been 47 reports of dogs attacking livestock since March.
In one incident in Meath, a farmer shot two dogs as they had killed six sheep and injured two more.
Owners are liable for a fine of up to €600 or face one month in prison
if their dog is linked to an incident.
