Dog owners are being asked to ensure their pets are not allowed access to
fields or farms with sheep this New Year.
Brendan Smith, the Monaghan County Council veterinary officer, says from now sheep worrying becomes a major problem in the region as lamb season
approaches.
He says for any first time dog owners, it is important they have the proper electric fencing, pens, or runs installed for when the dog is in the garden,
especially if they live in the countryside.
The loss of revenue through sheep worrying can have a huge financial impact on the farmer, as well as the stress on the sheep often causing them to lose
their lambs.
