He has been documenting the beauty of Cavan and its people on Twitter since the first lockdown, brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic in March 2020, kept him 'curtailed' to 5km.
And the Curtailed Rambler aka Gerard Smith has brought about a whole new dimension to Cavan and its people - not just here but throughout the county's diaspora across the world.
Gerard who describes himself as a storyteller, author and an explorer has also written a book based on his recent adventures and explorations called 'Secrets and Styes' and the wonderful collection of stories and observations is now available at Candlelight Books in Cavan town.
Meanwhile, Gerard told Northern Sound today that he returned to Co Cavan after 30 years living and working in London and as he began to walk, observe and take pictures during the pandemic, he started to realise that he was in the process of discovering a place that he never knew as a youngster.
He added how blown away he became by the beauty, the landscape and the people of the area.
"The Curtailed Rambler came when Covid-19 happened and we were all told to stay within the 5km. So, I just started eking out every one of those of those kilometres," he continued.
"I stayed within my 5km and called myself The Curtailed Rambler. And even thought Covid-19 is no longer here, I like to keep that name and continue to document Cavan, its people, and its places."
