A "total disgrace'" - that's the view of a local resident who was reacting to 150 young spectators watching around 30 boy racers perform doughnuts and wheelies on the N54 near Clones late on Saturday night.
Speaking on the this morning's Joe Finnegan Show, John Connolly, expressed his shock at how young people lined the road to watch the stunts while older people in the area are living in fear due to the high number of people attending.
He said that these people are acting like "mad men" going up and down the road at all hours of the night and highlighted how most people living locally, where these boy racers gather, are in their 80s and 90s.
The N54 between Clones and Cavan crosses the border and is a busy route in the Northern Sound region; it's also the main corridor for the ambulance service travelling to Cavan General from most parts of Monaghan.
Local resident John Connolly is calling on the people that are participating in this late night road racing to think about the people living in the area.
Up and down the road like a mad man, would they do that to the parents or grandparents if they were living in the area? I am not surprised to hear this is happening in other parts of the region, this is the main route for Cavan Hospital, the block the roads and don't dip their headlights and its a total disgrace.
Meanwhile, Cllr Pat Treanor, who raised the problem with Northern Sound six weeks ago described what's going on as "a scandal".
Cllr Treanor told the Joe Finnegan Show today that he is "hopeful" that a resolution will be found through joint co-operation between the Gardaí and the PSNI.
He said that people in the area believe they have been "forgotten about" when it comes to law enforcement, and there is a lot of anger in the community.
The local Sinn Fein Councillor says people are now living in fear as a direct result of the actions of these boy racers.
These people living in the area are suffering in silence and afraid to go out and they are also afraid to complain about this issue. It's not right, 25 years after the Good Friday Agreement people should not have to live in fear and we need a joint policing effort between the PSNI and the Gardai and its not good enough that we have to wait for weeks for this to be dealt with.
