Funding has been provided for the appointment of an oncology dietitian at Cavan General Hospital. The local health facility has a state of the art dietitian unit and the latest addition will serve as a boost to the service already in place.
Deputy Niamh Smyth told Northern Sound that a "dedicated dietitian" to the oncology unit will help cancer patients' recovery. She pointed out that it will support wraparound services that those in recovery need to access.
Deputy Smyth added that this new full-time dietitian will compliment the services already in existence at the local health facility. "We know there is a fantastic dietitian unit in Cavan General Hospital.
"But I wanted something specifically around oncology. I am delighted that Health Minister Stephen Donnelly did engage with me over the issue. He is providing the funding needed to deliver a dietitian to the oncology unit at Cavan General Hospital," she added.
