Increasing excise duty on petrol and diesel from next week, does not make sense, according to the Consumers Association of Ireland. Petrol will increase by six cent per litre while the cost of diesel will rise by five cent per litre from next Thursday.
The Consumers Association says the increases will be added to transport costs which will only increase the cost of living accordingly. Spokesperson Michael Kilcoyne says any rise in the cost of petrol and diesel will only make goods in the shops more expensive.
