In Monaghan alone, the fire service is seeking an additional three crews in each of the four stations including Clones, Ballybay, Carrickmacross and Castleblayney.

According to the local fire officer it is "important" for households to ensure that they are not exposed to a chimney fire.

Cllr Treanor has called on locals to be mindful during good weather.

Fire services across Cavan and Monaghan said the inclement weather prevented any increase in call outs on the night.
