Revised planning exemptions for the installation of rooftop solar panels on houses and other buildings have been signed off on by Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, Darragh O'Brien.
These new regulations will remove the requirement for planning permission for the installation of rooftop solar PV on the majority of buildings in the country. They will also act as a significant driver of the rollout of micro-and small-scale solar PV generation thus increasing Ireland's generation of solar energy and strengthening its energy security.
Cavan Monaghan Fianna Fail TD, Deputy Niamh Smith, says this latest development sets the scene for Ireland achieving one of its Climate Action Plan ambitions. She added that a greater number of households, schools, communities, farmers, and businesses have now been enabled to produce their own clean, renewable electricity while playing an active role in energy transition.
