Local TD Deputy Matt Carthy is continuing his trip in Australia this week as he highlights the need for re-establishing the Stormont Assembly in Northern Ireland along with deepening the relationship between Ireland and Australia.
The Cavan/Monaghan TD met with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong in Canberra to discuss a better future for both nations.
Deputy Carthy along with Donegal TD Pearse Doherty also met with Australian Housing Minister Julie Collins yesterday afternoon.
The Sinn Fein TD for Cavan and Monaghan said that Australia is an important international ally to Ireland, politically, economically and socially and it is important the relationship between our two countries is strengthened.
Deputy Matt Carthy told the Australian foreign minister that twenty-five years ago political leaders showed huge courage not just in signing the peace accord and we need the same determination now to get the Executive back up and running. The Monaghan native added that there was a long history between Ireland and Australia and now is the time to deepen these relationships.
