Fianna Fáil's Brendan Smith has confirmed he will be putting his name forward for the upcoming general election.
Speculation continues to mount over when an election will be called, with a November date currently a hot topic. Deputy Brendan Smith was first elected to the Dáil for Cavan-Monaghan in 1992 and says he will definitely be running in the next election. There is currently no date set for the Fianna Fáil convention however
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show this morning, he also said he'd be surprised if Fianna Fáil didn't opt for a three candidate strategy for the five-seater constituency.
"My name will be going forward for the Fianna Fáil convention and I hope i'm successful at that. I hope to have my name on the ballot paper. We haven't been told the Fianna Fáil strategy, party headquarters decides that but I'd be amazed if we hadn't three candidates as in the last election".
