The Department of Health has confirmed that there has been a 10% reduction in cancer diagnosis during the Covid pandemic.
According to statistics released by the Department of Health to the Aontú leader and Meath West TD Peadar Tóibín, there was a 10% decrease in the number of cancer diagnosis in the first year of the pandemic.
2020 saw the lowest ever number of people diagnosed with Cervical Cancer, the statistics go back nine years to 2011.
While breast cancer diagnosis also reached a record low, the lowest they've been since 2014.
Non-melanoma skin cancer diagnosis were down to their lowest in 2020, since 2016. And such a low figure for lung cancer diagnosis hasn't been seen since 2015.
Only ovarian and brain cancer diagnosis saw an increase in the first year of the pandemic.
The Aontú leader, Meath West TD Peadar Tóibín, said he sought the figures due to his concern of the 'shutdown' of the health service during lockdowns through 2020.
