Breifne College in Cavan will be part of the first cohort of schools nationally to offer Climate Action and Sustainable Development for the 2025/26 academic year.

The promise of a new school will mean staff and pupils will be able to move out of their current site in an industrial estate in the town.

The funding will enable improvement works at both schools.

Works on all the school properties are for the development of special needs classrooms and facilities.

Cllr McCooey believes that allowing people over the age of 70 to drive a school bus would help the situation as drivers are currently in short supply.

The approval will see the construction of a new classroom and two SET rooms.
