A resident said a person "had some serious injuries" after falling near construction works a few months ago.

The Department of Equality has dismissed claims an asylum seeker in Monaghan was injured during recent construction at a Direct Provision Centre.

The incident emerged on social media, where a resident said a person "had some serious injuries" after falling near construction works a few months ago.

Responding to this, a Department spokesperson told Northern Sound News that all construction works on-site are sealed off, and there had been no reports of injuries during recent works to install a football field, or in installing a water tank for use by the fire service.

The social media post also said the person's daughter is regularly getting sick from undrinkable "brown water".

The Department said a routine check on May 25th, and an unannounced environmental health audit on June 2nd returned no water issues.
