Demand for homes has increased in 18 of the 26 counties across the country, compared to the same time last year. Daft.ie figures show demand for new homes has jumped 114 per cent, with demand for all types of homes up 17 per cent year on year.
Enquiries about homes in Dublin saw the strongest growth, up 34 per cent, followed by Meath. Daft.ie Chief Commercial Officer, Adam Ferguson says estate agents are busy fielding calls and emails.
Mr Ferguson said we won’t see “dramatic” increases in prices or interest rates following this report – but we won’t see the continued plateauing of prices Daft.ie observed in recent months.
The statistics on supply and demand of rental accommodation are "much more extreme" than the Daft.ie report, according to Mr Ferguson. "There just isn’t anywhere close to the rental stock needed," he said, which could explain the increased demand for purchasing.
