The Principal of St Clare's National School in Cavan town says they've been a long time waiting for approval for a major new extension.
The Department of Education yesterday gave approval for a new extension and the refurbishment of the existing building.
The works will add 10 new classrooms and other accommodation at the site, taking the school to 30 classrooms.
Principal Alma Leonard says the works will allow for an increase in student numbers.

Minister for Education Norma Foley confirmed the news yesterday evening and it has been welcomed by local TD Niamh Smyth and party colleague Brendan Smith.
