The need for the Minister for Sport to make a statement on the opening of the Sports Capital Programme to new applicants this year was raised by local Senator Robbie Gallagher.
The issue was brought to the Minister for sport's attention, Thomas Byrne last week in the Oireachtas.
Senator Gallagher says that this is a programme that is eagerly anticipated and awaited by every sporting enthusiast and club the length and breadth of the country. The Monaghan native says he is hopeful that the funding will be announced soon from the Minister for Public Expenditure.
Over 4.8 million was allocated to clubs across Cavan and Monaghan during last years application process. Senator Robbie Gallagher says the lack of funding is not behind the delay to this years sports capital spend.
