38 people died work-related incidents last year, compared to 54 in 2020 That's according to the Health and Safety Authority's (HSA) annual workplace review.
As European Safety Week begins today, the HSA says over a million days were lost due to work related injuries in 2020, compared to nearly six hundred thousand last year. Assistant Chief Executive with the HSA, Dr Kevin DeBarra, says these deaths are avoidable.
"The number of fatalities in 2021 is the lowest number on record. But that doesn't change the fact that 38 people lost their lives last year.
"These 38 people - all but one of whom were males - were fathers sons uncles brothers and friends. Our view is that all of these are both foreseeable and preventable," he added.
