An Bord Pleanála has reversed the decision by Cavan County Council to refuse planning permission for a mast in Mullagh.
It follows an appeal by Eir, after the Local Authority denied permission for the 21 metre high communications structure in an existing eircom exchange site in the village.
The County Council refused permission for the development because it was deemed that the "scale and design" of the project would have "an adverse impact on the visual and residential amenities of the area".
Eir appealed this decision with An Bord Pleanála, stating that the works are needed to "support Eir customers in the area".
Eir added that "it would not be possible to secure an alternative site that satisfies the requirements of the Cavan County Development Plan".
An Bord Pleanála granted permission for the development in Mullagh and concluded that "the proposed development would not seriously injure the amenities of the area or property in the vicinity".
It added that the "development is in accordance with the proper planning and sustainable development of the area".
