Cavan/Monaghan ETB have reversed their decision to close St. Bricin's College, Belturbet, and St. Mogue's College, Bawnboy, at their Meeting to-day.
Cllr Aine Smith said that St. Mogue’s and St. Bricin’s have for many decades served their communities very well. She said that she believes that this is the right time
to rescind the decision to consolidate both schools. The decision made today to formally reverse the position of Cavan/Monaghan ETB follows on from a comprehensive campaign from the Save Our Schools and local politicians.
Cllr Smith said it was heartening to see the new accommodation block at St Bricin’s with modern and top-class facilities, while St Mogue’s have also got 10 additional classrooms and that
too, presently under construction, will be state of the art accommodation. Cllr Smith who is also a teacher at St Mogue's said that the enrolment has grown in both schools and the new accommodation will enable the future growth of both St Mogue’s and St Bricin’s.
Cllr John Paul Feeley said that today is a positive milestone for Education in West Cavan. Cllr Aine Smith paid tribute to her late father for the work that he did alongside other politicians in the area. She said today was a great day for West Cavan.
