A tender has been published for the refurbishment and redevelopment of a 19th century building in Cavan. It will see the old gate lodge in Ballyhaise turned into a new coffee shop.
The tender published by Cavan County Council in conjunction with Ballyhaise Development Association is looking for contractors to redevelop the Old Gate Lodge in Ballyhaise.
The lodge is located adjacent to the Annalee River and opposite the main gates of Ballyhaise Agricultural College. It is a five-bay single storey building and was built in 1840. It previously was used as a craft shop but is now vacant.
The tender seeks to turn the vacant gate lodge into a useable community space and coffee shop. Documents attached to the tender also show a bat survey was carried out, which discovered a colony of bats living upstairs in the vacant lodge.
The survey's recommendation says that the colony being present in the building would not affect the day to day running of the shop, so developments should be carried out with respect to the colony. The closing date for submissions for the tender is today, 19th February.
