The launch of Cavan Darkness into Light 2023 takes place tonight in the Hotel Kilmore at 7:30pm. Jarlath Burns, president elect of the GAA; comedian and Dancing with the Stars participant Kevin McGahern; and Rory O'Connor of Rory's Stories fame are the guest speakers, and everyone is being invited to come along and join in the event which is now in its 14th year.
Organiser Fiona Corby, whose brother died by suicide at the age of 23, says Darkness into Light has become a personal journey for her. She highlighted how mental health supports are now plentiful and available to everyone.
Fiona added that reaching out to someone in distress can also "make the world of difference" to them. "The important message is just to reach out. Also if you notice that a loved one, a colleague, a friend have become quiet in themselves; they are cancelling going out for meals; or reverting back into themselves, ask them if they are okay.
"Tell them that you have noticed a change in them lately. Ask them if there is anything you can do to help. Reaching out to somebody might make the world of difference to them.
