157 km per hour - that's the speed one motorist was travelling at over the weekend on the N3 in Co Cavan. Local Gardaí say lots of speeding offences were detected such as dangerous overtaking and other road traffic infringements were also witnessed.
Members of the Cavan Roads Policing say it's the "responsibility of all road users" to take care of themselves and think of the other people using the roads. They added that "safer roads will be achieved" by drivers focusing on their speed and manner of driving.
Meanwhile, over 860 drivers will be fined with three penalty points after they were caught speeding during National Slow Down Day which took place this week. The operation ran for 24 hours on Monday. Gardaí say speed reduction enforcement has taken on a new sense of urgency amid an "alarming" increase in road deaths this year.
