The Dail has been told of a Cavan family's three year wait to see a paediatric consultant.
Sinn Fein's Pauline Tully says she's been contacted by the family of an 18 month old boy, who were told he may get seen when he's five years old.
The Cavan Deputy raised the issue of the child, who at six weeks old was diagnosed with an undescended testicle.
He was referred to a consultant in Cavan, but needs to see a paediatric urologist in Temple Street Children's Hospital, however she said the family were warned that this could take three and a half years.
Deputy Tully asked how delays like this are being allowed happen.
Responding to this, Tanaiste Leo Varadkar said the number of consultants in Ireland has increased, but there is shortages in some specialties that are causing delays.
