Cross border workers are being encouraged to take part in an ESRI survey that ends tomorrow.
It is believed that the number of cross border workers is vastly under-estimated and many may be losing out on benefits, and tax breaks according to a local tax consultant.
Rose Tierney from Tierney Tax Consultancy based in Monaghan and Roslea say there aren't accurate numbers of people who cross the border for work purposes. One of the complications which are being looked at are for simplifications on the growth in remote working.
Rose Tierney says where you have a Southern Ireland employer who sends an employee to work in the North they can have a payroll obligation in both jurisdictions. That means the full payroll would have to be run in the ROI and a shadow payroll run north of the border.
