Talks between workers and management at Tara Mines will get underway at the Workplace Relations Commission this morning.
Last week the owners of Tara Mines, Boliden, confirmed it will go ahead with its plans to suspend operations at the mine and temporarily lay off 650 workers later this month.
The company says it took the decision after losses driven by a number of factors including a decline in the price of zinc and high energy prices.
SIPTU Divisional Organiser Adrian Kane says they will be focusing on specific areas during the talks this morning. "It's a very difficult space for the people working in the mines, their families and the people of Navan," he explained.
