Cllr O'Reilly says that people have been 'let down by local government.

Recent weather conditions, incessant heavy rainfall, saturated ground conditions and "criminal underfunding" has had a brutal effect on the local road network in Co Cavan according to Aontú's Sarah O'Reilly.

Cllr O'Reilly believes that the culmination 16 years of underfunding since 2008 from central government for regional and local road networks, absorbing a €95million shortfall in that time have finally "caught up with us." 95% of County Cavan Road infrastructure is local and regional roads, as a result Co Cavan has a higher level of dependence on these networks than other counties.

Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr O'Reilly says that the over €18.1 million which was allocated to Cavan County Council for improving and maintaining roads across the county isn't "good enough." She added that the funding allocation of €18.1 million is half a million less that what the council was getting in 2008 and that people have been "let down" by local government TDs.
