The level of Covid cases in Cavan and Monaghan is falling but isn't falling fast enough.
Dr Augustine Pereira, who's head of Public Health in HSE North East, says it's not clear why the drop in the number of cases has been slowing in recent weeks.
He says cases in the region are still more than double what they were in early December and outbreaks are still being reported in some workplaces.
Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound today, Dr Pereira, said at this stage of the pandemic people shouldn't need to be told they need to abide by restrictions.
He says the UK variant has led to an increase in cases in Ireland but it's not clear what's behind the slow fall in cases in Cavan and Monaghan:
