Courts waiting time in Cavan for victims of domestic and gender-based violence are failing survivors.
That's the view of local TD Pauline Tully who has slammed the waiting times at district and circuit court levels being faced by victims of crime in Cavan, particularly for those experiencing domestic and gender-based violence.
The figures, released by , show that the current waiting time for hearings in Family Court can stand anywhere between 3 to 24 months, depending on the area.
The Cavan Monaghan TD said across Ireland, people are becoming more aware of the scourge of domestic and gender-based violence, intimate-partner violence, harassment, and coercive control. The deputy noted that we are as a society getting better at identifying people in that situation and encouraging them to seek support. Deputy Tully said that the postcode lottery faced by victims in terms of courts waiting times is adding to their trauma.
