The sentencing hearing of the men behind the deaths of 39 migrants continued today.

The Old Bailey in London today heard 41 year old Ronan Hughes of Tyholland, Co Monaghan had not intended to bring harm on those who died and would not have continued with the plan had he known so many people would be packed in the trailer.

He's accused of being the "ring-leader" behind the people smuggling operation which led to the deaths of the 39 people, who were found in a sealed lorry trailer in Essex in October 2019.

A number of others, including 26 year old Maurice Robinson of Craigavon, Co Armagh - who discovered the bodies - are also facing sentencing.

The hearing will continue on Monday when sentence is expected to be passed.
